Bantams bashed as United progress!

The first meeting for the Yorkshire rivals in a number of years drew a bumber 20,000+ crowd, and didnt disappoint. Lee Sheard reports.

Leeds United 2 - 1 Bradford City

Robsinson (pen,7) Conlon (71)

Becchio (40) Att :20, 128

Tempers flared in this typical high pace, high octane yorkshire derby. United nearly took the lead in the third minute, with Prutton smacking the upright with a lovely drive.

However the city reprieve was short as Leeds were awarded a penalty in the 7th minute which andy Robinson cooly slotted home to send the majority into raptures. City did respond well having a chance of their own through Conlon and a goal disallowed for offside.

The blue touch paper was lit minutes later when Colbeck went into the book for a crude challenge on Snodgrass, who him self was soon in the book for a late one on Omar Daley.

Chances at either end kept coming as Conlon headed over and Robinson Shook the crossbar with a rasping drive.

It was 2-0 courtesy of Argentine Becchio, who rose well to convert a corner past Rhys Evans. Evans was just as bsy in the second half by keeping out great efforts from Becchio and Robinson, with Howson hitting the woodwork for Leeds again in a frustrating day for Leeds.

The tempo never slowed as Conlon poked home a cross/shot and Daley was booked for a cynical challenge on Rui Marquez.
