| Charlton secured the three points at The Valley thanks to a Moritz Volz own goal. Paul Bloomfield reports.Town fell behind to Nicky Bailey’s sixth minute free-kick, with the signing from Southend United exploiting an inviting gap on the end of the Ipswich wall with a well-struck shot. Ipswich drew level when Martin Cranie diverted Jon Walters’ cross into the net. Jon Stead was waiting to steer the ball home had the Charlton defender not done so himself. Former Town man Darren Ambrose played a part in the goal that proved to be decisive when his team mate Hameur Bouazza failed to make contact with his delivery into the box, with the ball proceeding to bounce off the turf before hitting Town loanee Moritz Volz on the chest and looping over a hapless Richard Wright. Town again had chances, but once again suffered the consequences of failing to convert them. Iván Campo struck the crossbar with a first-half free kick, with the bar also being rattled in the second-half after Alan Quinn’s cross-shot.
