| Ipswich recorded their second home league win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Barnsley. After a far from encouraging start to the game from the home side, Barnsley goalkeeper Heinz Muller gifted Town the lead after 20 minutes. The German’s poor clearance landed at the feet of Jon Stead who steadied himself before slotting the ball home to maintain his record of scoring in every game he has played at Portman Road so far. It was a highly fortuitous lead, with Barnsley having much the better of the opening exchanges. In the second half, Owen Garvan bagged what has to be described as a rare goal from midfield on 66 minutes, when the Irishman fired home after good link-up play with Pablo Couñago. Town’s third and final goal of the night came once again in large part thanks to Heinz Muller in the Barnsley goal. Iván Campo unleashed a speculative effort from long range which Muller failed to deal with, as the ball squirmed in off him. The win sees the Blues end the month of September unbeaten in the league, having only tasted defeat at the hands of Wigan in the Carling Cup. Whilst many fans remain unhappy, and with the side still looking largely unlike promotion material; at least the unbeaten run shows signs of steady improvement.
