| Both sides rattled the crossbar, but ultimately had to settle for a goalless draw at Hillsborough. Paul Bloomfield reports.Sheffield Wednesday nearly took the lead in some style on 6 minutes, when Marcus Tudgay unleashed a shot from outside the box which rattled Richard Wright’s crossbar. Tudgay struck the bar once again 9 minutes later, heading Etienne Esajas’ free kick onto the woodwork. Town hit the woodwork themselves 10 minutes from time, with David Norris seeing his shot helped onto the underside of the bar by Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Lee Grant, before the ball fell kindly for him to take into his grasp. Francis Jeffers was introduced onto the field for the final few minutes for Wednesday, and as anticipated, received a frosty reception from the travelling Town supporters. It was a game of few chances, and not one that will last long in the memory but Town fans must try to look on the bright side. The result secures Town’s second successive away point in a season that has already seen the Blues win away from home. It is already a contrast to last season, when such a record was unheard of, and indeed Hillsborough was the venue in which Town picked up their long-awaited first win on the road of last season in February of this year.
