The pressure for Euro 08 survival is on already for both Switzerland and Turkey for their second game in Group A. A must win game for both teams to enable them to go into the final group game with a chance of controlling their own destiny in the competition, rather than rely and hope on other results going their own way. A draw would technically keep their competition alive b a lot will depend on the result between Czech Republic and Portugal. A loss would mean almost certain elimination from the tournament, especially if Czech Republic and Portugal draw their game. The Swiss were frustrated and a little unfortunate in their opening match against the Czech’s, but the loss of their main goalscorer and captain Frei to a knee ligament injury will be both a psychological and a team disadvantage to their prospects of overcoming the resilient Turkish team. The Swiss are likely to replace Frei with the attacking midfielder Hakan Yakin who was his substitute replacement in the opening game. There are also concerns over Swiss striker Marco Streller who is struggling with a groin strain but latest reports suggest he will be cleared to start the game. The Turkish squad have also been hit with injuries, most significantly to Captain Emre who tore a hamstring muscle and is out of contention for this and potentially the final group game against the Czech Republic. Additional concerns have been reported about centre backs Zan and Cetin. As so much is at stake for both teams it is hoped the game will be an entertaining affair with both sides going for a win, the Swiss hoping to achieve that elusive winning feeling in Euro Finals. The danger is that both sides may approach the match like rabbits staring into headlights, too frightened to move and take their chance, and therefore play a waiting game.
