In Premiership history, surely this week (w/c 1/9/08) will go down as one of the most memorable and perhaps significant in shaping the future of the competition. Are the events of this week cause for concern or a brave new dawn? George Parker poses this and more questions.
As we still suffer the aftershock of this amazing week, I pose the following questions: Will the drama continue with the Geordie faithful talking with their feet and presenting Newcastle’s owners with a near empty ground, in protest to their messiah’s (King Kev) departure? Will West Ham fans put up with another ‘transitional’ period as a newly appointed Manager bemoans the changes he needs to make before being properly judged? Will Man City Manager Mark Hughes, despite the statements suggesting otherwise, find himself victim to the ‘continental’ style of new football management and/or unrealistic expectations of mega rich and impatient new owners? How quickly will Robinho settle at City and acclimatise to the Premiership? Does he actually realise which Manchester Club he’s signed for? Can Spurs loanee Frazer Campbell score more goals for Spurs than Berbatov does for United this season (wouldn’t that be ironic?)? On the international front: How will England fare without having their current top scorer available, on the bench at least, in their opening World Cup Qualifiers? If England play well and get the results required – will this finally convince Capello that Gerrard and Lampard can’t play in the same team? Will Jimmy Bullard be the answer? Can George Burley keep the momentum from the Euro 08 qualifying campaign North of the Border? Will Northern Ireland's David Healy continue to do what he, so far, has failed to achieve in the Premiership, and score more International goals? Is now the time for John Toshack’s Welsh youth policy to come to fruition? Watch this space! Fancy writing for LiveFootball? Click here to find out more. |
