Following equally impressive games against Germany and the Czech Republic respectively, both teams will fancy their chances of reaching the final four. Turkey will still be on a high following their amazing comeback against the Czech Republic and will look to emulate their success of the 2002 World Cup, where they managed to achieve third place. Few gave Turkey much of a chance before the tournament began but they showed determination and talent to progress from the group stages, and the winner scored by Nihat against the Czech Republic was something very special indeed. Croatia had progression into the quarter-final sewn up after their victory over Germany, and had the luxury of resting several players, meaning they may be fresher than their rivals. Croatia also have in Luka Modric one of the stars of the tournament so far. His performances from the middle of the park have epitomised Croatia’s talent within their squad. They will fancy their chances and will have one eye on the semi-finals already. Turkey will have to do something mightily special to reach the semi-finals, but after the Czech game, anything is possible.
