Unibond Premier League - Fixture Previews 6th to 10th September 2008

As England don’t kick off their World Cup Qualifier against Andorra until 7pm (6.9.08), why not consider an afternoon at one of your local non-league clubs? George Parker reviews what’s on offer in the North of England via the Unibond Premier League.

The games are coming quick and fast in the Unibond Premier league. By the time the first FA Cup pre-qualifying round commences next Saturday (13/908), the Unibond Premier teams will have 8 results on the board following a full Saturday and midweek programme. George Parker reviews the fixtures ahead for the next week.

Early leaders Hednesford Town are at home to 3rd placed Ashton town who trail them by only one point. 2nd placed Guiseley visit Boston who are placed mid table with two wins, two defeats and a draw. Like Guiseley, Kendal and Nantwich, all four clubs have a game in hand on the rest.

4th placed Ilkeston Town visit 5th place Marine. Marine, along with the top two (Hednesford and Guiseley), remain unbeaten this season. Marine have a challenging few days ahead as they play again on Monday evening as they visit Ashton.

Bradford Park Avenue continue their promising start to the season with a home tie against Buxton who will be hoping to improve on their point per game average so far this campaign.

7th placed Nantwich visit second from bottom Whitby town who have just one win and three points from 6 games so far this season. It could be a tough few days for Whitby who then travel to Guiseley on Tuesday evening.

4th bottom Ossett Town visit 8th placed Witton Albion and then entertain North Ferriby on Tuesday. North Ferriby entertain Kendal this Saturday, only 3 points separating the two teams.

Leigh play hosts to Frickley Athletic before both teams then have local derbies in the midweek fixtures. Frickley are at home to Bradford P.A. whilst Leigh visit Nantwich Town on Tuesday evening.

FC United of Manchester can leap from Eastwood Town if they are victorious on Saturday, before they visit bottom of the table Prescot Cables who only have a single point for their efforts in their first six games before they visit Matlock on Saturday.

Finally, Cammell Laird are currently 3rd from bottom with four points from 6 games as they prepare for their visit to Kendall and their home game against Worksop Town.

Worksop’s second game of the two match programme is played on Wednesday 10th September, a day after most teams have played their second game of the week.

So if you’ve not got Setanta Sports and you’ve not got a match to go to this Saturday afternoon, or have a couple of hours to spare on Tuesday or Wednesday evening, why not check out a Unibond League game near to you. If you’ve not sampled this level of football before, or recently, I expect you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Visit here again to see how the season is progressing - or if you’re visiting any of the games and want to write about the game or your experience of non-league football, contact live football direct.
